The Volkswagen Group has announced a further rise in fleet vehicle registrations between January and September 2007. 113,061 Group vehicles (previous year: 108,962) were registered on the German passenger car fleet market which covers customers with a fleet of at least ten cars. The Wolfsburg-based automaker with its Volkswagen, Audi, Seat and Skoda brands thus impressively confirmed its position as the unrivalled leader with a 44 percent share of the market.
The Volkswagen brand, where registrations grew by 1.2 percent compared with the same period in 2006 to 70,022 units, and the Audi brand, with 2.7 percent growth over the prior-year period to 33,837 vehicles, remain the undisputed market leaders in the passenger car segment. The Skoda brand grew its lead as the best import brand with a strong 39.5 percent rise to 8,356 units.
Instrumental in this success on the fleet market from January to September 2007 were the Volkswagen Passat as the absolute number one, with a rise of 1.5 percent to 29,154 registered vehicles, and the Volkswagen Touran with an increase of 23.8 percent to 12,747 units. The Audi A4 recorded an increase of 4.3 percent to 15,009 registrations despite the model changeover. With a rise of 28.2 percent and 5,502 registered vehicles, the Skoda Octavia achieved the greatest improvement in the model ranking.
Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles confirmed its market leadership in the light commercial vehicles segment (maximum of 5 metric tons) with a rise of 3.7 percent to 19,554 units.
"These excellent figures are resounding confirmation of our leading position on the growing fleet market. The Groupʼs finely-tuned product program gives us reason to approach the fourth quarter with equal optimism," Dr. Stefan Brungs, Head Volkswagen Group Fleet International, commented.
